Deering wins MO Class 1 Coach of the Year!

October 1, 2015

We would like to congratulate Mr. Jon Deering as being selected as the Missouri Class 1 Quiz Bowl Coach of the Year for the 2014-15 Season. Mr. Deering was selected out of over 60 Class 1 coaches. Mr. Deering’s quiz bowl team’s accomplishments last year speaks loudly about the dedication Mr. Deering has put towards our school’s program.
Last year’s stats: Overall record of 44 wins, 29 losses, participated in 7 Saturday tournaments plus 5 EMO conference events, won EMO Conference regular season and tournament championships, overall EMO conference record: 17-0 and defeated then-defending conference champion Montgomery County in regular season and again in championship game, 1st place out of 28 area class 1 and 2 schools in KRES Scholars Cup small school division, 3rd place out of 24 at Washington High Tournament, WMR1 players took home 7 individual medals during season, 2nd place in districts (lost close game to Columbia Independent, who narrowly lost in sectionals to eventual class 1 state champion Tuscumbia), 2nd place at Montgomery JV tournament, started a junior high program and hosted own tournament in March, qualified for all 3 of the major national tournaments

This year the Mr. Deering’s quiz bowl team is planning on attending 9 Saturday tournaments in addition to 5 EMO Conference events and could play upwards of 90-100 games total. The team is returning 4 varsity players from last season, including 3 full-time starters and over 90% of scoring from 14-15.  Again Congrats to Mr. Deering and his team for this outstanding accomplishment and good luck this year!
