Sixth Grade Honors Choir

April 17, 2015

Selected students were able to attend the Northeast District Sixth Grade Honors Choir last Monday at MACC in Moberly. They rehearsed in a choir of approximately 300 students with clinician/composer Josh Chisolm. That evening they presented a concert which premiered an original composition by Mr. Chisolm.

FFA Team Advances to State!

April 7, 2015

Congratulations to the WM FFA Forestry CDE Team for advancing to State!!  On April 1st, we sent 4 teams to the Northeast District Career Development Event Competition.  Those teams included Forestry, Livestock, Horses and Farm Management.  The Forestry team advanced to state, which is on April 17, during FFA State Convention.  The members of the team are Travis Owen, Jacob Peak, Matthew Walton and Dustin Worthington.

MCTM Math Competition Results

Blaize Wright-4th grade- 5th place in Number Sense 
Wyatt Cassidy- 6th grade- 1st place in Number Sense
Brooke Lionberger- 6th grade- 4th place in Target, 3rd place in Number Sense, and honorable mention (top scoring elementary student from WMR-1)
Elizabeth Burdick- 7th grade- 2nd place in Sprint
Erin Johnson- 7th grade- 5th place in Target
Charlee Cassidy- 8th grade- 2nd place in Target
Kollin McCoy- 8th grade- 2nd place in Sprint, honorable mention (top scoring middle school student from WMR-1), and 2nd place of all the 8th graders- that earns him a trip to STATE!

8th graders Ben, Jesse, Kollin, and Cameron also earned 2nd place in the team competition.

Two Performances Qualify for State!

On Saturday, March 21, Libby Blaue, Morgan Canterbury, and Emily Blaue received a I (Exemplary) rating on their SSA Trio and Emily Blaue received a I (Exemplary) rating on her vocal solo. This rating qualifies them to perform at State Music Festival in Columbia on April 30!! Congratulations to these girls and Mrs. Murdock for all their hard work!

Band & Choir Success at Districts!

On Friday, March 20, the WMR-1 Concert Band and Honors Choir participated in District Music Festival at Mexico High School. Both groups received an overall II (Outstanding) rating, with the Band receiving a I (Exemplary) rating from the sight reading judge!

Sixth Grade Science Fair

Thursday, March 19 the Sixth Grade exhibited their Science Fair projects in the High School cafeteria. The event was well attended with over 100 people viewing the exhibits and asking questions of the junior scientists!

Quiz Bowl Wins Conference Championship!

Math Students Win at Competition

Congratulations to Elizabeth Burdick, Erin Johnson, Charlee Cassidy, and Kollin McCoy for earning individual awards at the MCTM Mathematics Competition! Ben Burton, Jesse Cash, Kollin McCoy, and Cameron Morris also placed second in the team competition. Kollin was the 2nd place overall 8th grader and qualifies for the state competition on April 25th.

FFA Students Compete

March 19, 2015

March 18, Emily Blaue, Amber Worthington and Larna Schnitker traveled to Van-Far to compete in Area V LDEs (Leadership Development Events).  Emily Blaue placed 2nd in Advanced Prepared Public Speaking with her speech on the pork industry and is moving on to Districts on March 23.


The WMR-1 FFA Chapter held their first Labor Auction on March 12.  There was a great crowd and 23 FFA members donated 4 to 6 hours of their time to auctioned off that night.  The auctioneer was Matt Korman and he kept the bids coming in with an ending total of $7630!

FFA to Hold Slave Auction and Gun Raffle

Shriners to hold Screening April 4th

Shriners will be doing a screening again this year on Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Jonesburg Elementary School in Jonesburg, MO.  Last year we were able to help 5 kids get free services from the Shriners Hospitals to correct physical issues they had.  This again was at no cost to the families. WM High School Receives Statewide Award for Battle of the Belt Competition

February 24, 2015

Tuesday evening, February 17th, at half time of the girls' basketball game, Kristin Windman, BOTB coordinator, along with members of the STUCO organization were presented with a silver banner for the school's dedication and hard work during the Battle of the Belt competition, having 97.50% seat belt usage. Wellsville was one of nine northeast Missouri schools to receive statewide and regional honors in the competition.

Support Our Schools Committee

Congrats to Travis Owen for winning 1st in Area V Emerging Agriculture Technology Proficiency!  He will be recognized on stage at Missouri FFA State Convention in April. 
Congrats to Allyson Korman for winning 2nd in Beef Production Entrepreneurship Proficiency.  She will be recognized on stage at Area V FFA Banquet in May.

Board Schedules Open Meeting

January 12, 2015

The Board has set a date to hold a special work session to review the school’s budget and make plans for the upcoming years. This meeting will be on Monday, January 26 (in two weeks) at 7:00pm in the HS teachers’ work room. Though the actual agenda has not been set yet, some of the topics that may be covered will include the current state of the school’s budget, the upcoming proposed levy increase on the April ballot, school hold-harmless funding eligibility and a 4-day school week. This is an open meeting and the public is invited.

As of last week we have had many changes to our high school basketball schedules for the 2014-15 season.  As changes are made they are updated on and on our official Facebook page (Wellsville-Middletown R-1.) The schedules will be updated on their respective pages on our school’s website by the end of the week.  As always, if you have any questions or want a new schedule printed feel free to stop by the high school office or call (573)684-2017.  The most recent changes are listed.  Thank you for your understanding for these changes.

2/3 is now JVB/VG/VB vs Elsberry at 5:30 (maybe 5pm, will know later)

Open Seat on Board of Education

There is an open seat on the WMR1 Board of Education. The process is to submit a letter of interest to the superintendent’s office by the end of the day on Tuesday, December 2, 2014.  The Board will review the applicants and expect to make a selection at the December Board meeting on December 11, 2014.

JH Basketball Tournament

W-M gets ready for Red Ribbon Week

The last week in October (27-31) marks the 20th annual  National Red Ribbon Week.  Click here for the planned dress up days and events for that week.  There will be a canned food drive contest specifically for Buddy Packs.  Any student in PreK-12th grade can bring in a canned item (needs to be from this list) and the class that brings in the most will receive a pizza or donut party. 

The Nifty Fifties

The fall musical will be October 17-18, at 7:00 P.M in the H.S. gym. For $10 you may buy a Louise’s Luncheonette ticket, which is for the show and a 50’s-style burger, fries, and Coke served to you by a cast member.  We have a capacity of 100 dinner seats each night.  It’s a great idea to reserve your seat early. For $5 (adults) and $3 (students), you may sit in the bleachers. Come support the speech and drama program!!

Opaa Nutritional Information

In the links to the right, we have placed "My Opaa." This site will allow staff and students/parents to create log-ins to view any and all ingredients that Opaa uses for any meal they serve. This will also help any parents with students with allergies.

National FFA President Visits Local Chapter

The FFA members have been very busy already this year.  The National FFA President came to visit Wellsville-Middletown on 9/9.  He talked about taking hold of opportunities and not being afraid to fail, because in FFA, we have support to help us back up and do it again.  These members got to see him again on 9/10, at the Area V Leadership Conference held in Bowling Green.  FFA Fruit sales have started and will end on 9/30.  Please see an FFA member if you are interested!   Please find more information and updates on their webpage, or see their Facebook page.
