WMR-1 PTO MINUTES

The September 15th, Wellsville-Middletown PTO meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by president, Dori Moore.

Attending the meeting were 11 parents, 1 teacher, and Mr. Nasir (elementary principal).

The treasurer’s report was given and approved; we currently have a balance of $20,413.10 in the checking account with $14,000 ear-marked for purchasing playground equipment.

Mr. Nasir asked for an increase of $500.00 in the Homework Club budget, previously we had budgeted $500.00.  Homework Club is a positive incentive for the kids in 3rd through 6th grade to complete and turn in homework on-time.  If a student completes and turns in homework on time for the entire month, that student receives a healthy snack of their choice, then as an extra incentive, if a student is in homework club all three months September, October and November, they will have a treat of popcorn & a movie just before Christmas break.  If a student then remains in homework club each month for the entire school year they earn a trip to Skate Quest in Montgomery City.  One other incentive is if an entire classroom is in homework club any given month, that classroom receives a pizza party.  After some discussion, Christine Rutherford made a motion to increase the Homework Club budget to $1,000 up from $500.00 the previous year.  Jennifer Huff seconded the motion, a vote was taken, the motion carried.

Jeana Houf (3rd grade teacher) also asked if we could increase the amount of the Christmas Decoration expense money that is budgeted for the teachers to use to purchase plates, napkins, cups, decorations, etc. for the Christmas Lunch for the students.  Each year the teachers decorate the cafeteria, and serve the students lunch with plates rather than their regular trays, dim the lights, and make this a very special “memory” for everyone.  After some discussion, Christine Rutherford made a motion to increase the Christmas Decoration expense budget to $250.00 from last year’s $200.00.  Missy seconded the motion, a vote was taken, motion carried.

Mr. Nasir reported that the elementary enrollment is up by approximately 20 students.  He also reported that this school year is going very well; everyone is working very hard and diligently with the new math program.

Dori reported that she talked with Ms. Goodman and she said that she would take care of the Campbell’s Labels and Box tops for education again this year.  We are going to ask the grocery store if we can set up a collection box so that folks in the community wishing to collect labels and box tops will have a location to drop them off.  The Campbell’s company has a catalog that items can be purchased using labels from Campbell’s products, the more we collect the more items we can “purchase” with labels the further we can stretch our general operating funds.  The box tops are done slightly different; however, each box top equals 10¢ for our school.

Just a reminder, we still have T-Shirts $6.00; Sweatshirts $10.00 and Magnets $5.00 for sale

Under new business it was decided to have a Movie night on October 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the elementary gym.  The PTO will sponsor this event.  PTO will provide the movie, soda, & pop-corn.   Peggy Virden will create a flyer to send home with the students.

Jennifer Huff made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Susie Gilbert seconded the motion.  The meeting was adjourned at 7:45p.m.
