RE:  JANUARY 12TH, 2012 BOARD MEETING

The Wellsville-Middletown R-1 Board of Education met in regular session January 12th, 2012 at 7:04 p.m.  The meeting was called to order by President Blaue and Mr. Wales led in the Pledge of Allegiance.  The board approved the agenda as amended, approved the minutes of the December 8th, 2011 regular and executive meetings and then reviewed financial statements, voted to pay all bills and transfer funds. 

Thank you to Richard and Dayton Ham for hauling and spreading gravel on the school parking lot.  Trucking and labor was donated by Mr. Ham.  A thank you note was read from Dennis and Clinetta Weinrich.  Voted to accept letters of retirement from Leonna Jackson, Junior High English Instructor and Tom Wales, Superintendent of Schools at the end of the 2011-12 school year. 

Mrs. Hamlett reported December attendance rate was 94.91% and our current enrollment is 182, an increase of four students.  Mark Twain School District has requested to become part of the EMO Conference.  Club and activity reports were handed out.

Mr. Nasir reported current elementary enrollment of 209 students.  This past month several kids participated in the Elementary Cheer Clinic, 60 students were eligible for the Homework Club, the Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) group presented to the 3rd graders and on December 20th the 4th-6th grade students performed in a Christmas Concert.  The final “Leader In Me” PDC day will be held on the afternoon of February 13th.  There is a teacher’s committee working on a building wide math program to assist in improving math.

Mr. Wales reported that an overhead heater in the bus barn caught on fire this evening and will need to be fixed.  A safety inspector from MUSIC visited this week, we do have outlets to be changed out and Jeff blocked off a slide on the playground for liability reasons.  Mr. Wales discussed State funding and that we should know more after Monday on cuts from State funding that will be in the making for next year.
